We've now reached Mosteiró, a town steeped in religious history. Mosteiró is known for its monastery, and the peace and tranquility it brings to the town. Mosteiró's name itself is a nod to its monastic heritage. The foundation of the Monastery of Vairão in the 10th century is a significant spiritual, cultural and historical landmark event in Mosteiró. Brother Lourenço Pires, a 14th-century monk, was instrumental in the monastery's expansion and the propagation of Christianity in the region.

It's believed that the monastery was a refuge for Christian monks during Moorish invasions. The town's water mills, some still in operation, speak of its agricultural past. Local legend speaks of the ‘Lady in White’, a ghostly figure said to wander the monastery's old halls, keeping vigil over its treasures..
