Douro Valley Trip to Pinhão by Train

Paredes Train Station
Paredes welcomes us next. This town is synonymous with two things - nature and furniture.
It’s Portugal’s ‘capital of furniture' and also ‘capital of lupin’, home to a proud woodworking tradition, so you'll be traveling in style as you explore the local cuisine.
The name 'Paredes' means 'Walls' in Portuguese. It's said that Paredes was a place of refuge during ancient wars, with walls providing protection. The town's Church of Gandra is an iconic symbol, reflecting Romanesque old architecture.
One of the must-do’s is definitely the Festival do Tremoço (Lupin festival), which is done on the Town’s Hall big square every year in August. It’s filled with local delicious delicacies, the famous Rosé Vinho Verde and the Portuguese folklore songs, all day and all night long.
Also, given its status as the 'furniture capital', the annual Furniture Fair is a major event, showcasing innovative designs while honoring traditional craftsmanship, once that the history of Paredes is deeply rooted in the woodworking industry, which began its rapid expansion in the late 1800s.
The town's transformation was, in many ways, overseen by Joaquim Lopes dos Santos, a prominent businessman who pioneered modern furniture manufacturing techniques in the region.
