Penha Longa Resort*****
The Penha Longa is an elegant palatial-style property set amongst the rolling hills of the Sintra-Cascais Nature Reserve. This 5-star resort features a 27-hole golf course and a 1500 m² state-of-the-art spa centre. The resort's LAB Restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in November 2016.
All rooms have private balconies overlooking the landscaped gardens, swimming pools and golf courses. Beds are fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets and all rooms benefit from a Nespresso coffee machine, air conditioning, iPod docking station, high-speed internet access and plasma-screen TV. Each room has a private bathroom with Asprey toiletries
The Penha Longa Resort has 10 restaurants, offering a diverse range of cuisines and dining areas. Perhaps the most famous is the recently renovated Midori, Japan's first Michelin-starred restaurant. There are also Sergi Arola's LAB and Arola restaurants, the seasonal AQUA restaurant and the Villa Tamariz Utopia restaurant located on the Estoril coast. The Eneko Lisboa Restaurant, by chef Eneko Atxa, who currently has 5 Michelin stars, offers excellent dining options with local nuances, while the Basque Restaurant recreates the typical cuisine of the Basque tavern. The Italian restaurant Penha Longa Mercatto, with panoramic views of the Serra de Sintra, is also where the breakfast buffet is served daily.
The resort's golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is among the top 30 in Continental Europe. The hotel offers several recreational facilities, such as indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and squash courts, horse riding, a fitness center and a spa with treatments, as well as an exclusive garden. It also has a children's playground, minigolf course and a children's club.
The Penha Longa benefits from a privileged location for hiking and biking. The resort is a 25-minute drive from Lisbon International Airport.
